Protein Balls are the upcoming favourite snack in my household these days! My craze for them started 8 months ago when I was carrying for my second baby. I have so far made 4 versions of different energy balls of which this Mejdool date are my favourite due to the sweetness.
They are great for women of all ages and especially for someone who is pregnant or gave birth recently. Keeping up with iron can be difficult after pregnancy due to mommy duties. It takes less than 10 minutes to make these great snacks.
RECIPE
20 PITTED MEJDOOL DATES
10 RAISINS
1 TABLESPOON CHIA SEEDS
1.5 CUP OF ROLLED OATS
1 TEASPOON VANILLA FLAVOUR
3 TABLESPOONS OF ALMOND BUTTER
PREPARATION
Soak the dates(without seeds) and raisins in hot water for 10 minutes, squeeze any excess water and blend them into a semi-smooth paste. Now add rest of the ingredients and blend them to a smoother consistency. Roll them into small balls and chill them in the fridge for 15 minutes.
I used almond butter but you can use peanut butter instead for the vegan version. They can be stored in the freezer for a couple of weeks. They are super rich in iron and chia seeds are a source of protein and fibre. Try this low calorie sweet as an alternative to chocolates for curbing your sugar cravings.
